    There are hundreds of thousands of businesses worldwide that use old computers and people store all kinds of stuff on old computers.

    With the advent of the PC and general purpose architecture of it all, so many firms made point-of-sale (cash registers) systems out of these things. Cash registers never get updated, maintained, replaced (unless they catch fire) and are a huge weak link our modern infrastructure.
